It’s the word that’s on everyone’s minds. But you might also ask, how does obesity relate to your eyes? Well, remember that my thesis is that the entire body is interconnected, and harmony of the parts requires balance.
Studies have indicated that obesity and increased saturated fat intake are intimately related to greater chances of development of cataract and macular degeneration. But obesity also tends to decrease one’s activity, energy level and outlook. Being overweight lends a greater risk of having a heart attack, becoming diabetic, and developing a number of cancers.
Every state in the US has an increasing prevalence of overweight adults, and even children. According to the CDC, there are over 500,000 type II-diabetic children in the US. In every state, there is at least 5 % of the adult population with diabetes.
The amazing thing is that we can control both what we eat, and how much. By beginning a walking program, it is possible to learn self-control. Substituting simple sugars and bread, with salads is a quick way to notice a difference in waistline measurement. Replacing soft drinks with water is healthier and reduces your appetite.
Build a better outlook with conscious efforts to maintain a manageable weight and preserve vision for a lifetime.
