Welcome

Welcome to Eye Advisory

Eyes don’t get sick by themselves, and an eye cannot be treated without attending to your overall health. Dr. Abel is interested in providing you information not only about your eyes, but about their connection to your mind and body.

Dr. Abel is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been practicing for 36 years. He manages patients with cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eyes and many other eye disorders. In order to learn more about eyes, Dr. Abel has investigated amazing connections between the course of my patients’ eye problems and their overall health. The effects of certain diseases and drugs, as well as vitamins, supplements and herbs, will be explored for many eye conditions.

Eye Advisory is a resource that integrates the power foods, specific supplements, as well as the high-tech options that have been found to be useful for specific eye conditions such as cataract, macular degeneration, glaucoma, dry eye, diabetic retinopathy, allergies and many more. In addition, Dr. Abel discusses what is good for the health and eyes of your children, eye exercises to combat computer eye strain, tips for breathing, meditation, visual imagery and much more.

Nearly 2,500 years ago, Pythagoras was said to have designed the caduceus, the symbol of medicine. It features a sword entwined by two snakes. One snake represents science and reason, the other, art and intuition. In this website, Dr. Abel would like to help you discover remedies that have been uncovered by both science and intuition.

The duality of East and West, art and science, and mind and body must be enlisted for healing to take place. The wisdom of the aboriginal shamans, Chinese traditional medicine and Ayurveda (the Buddhist/Indian form of medicine),which all proceeded the Christian era, are still the mainstays for therapy in much of the world. Philosopher Rene Descartes separated the function of the mind from that of the body. This Cartesian model eventually led to specialization in medicine, where parts are examined, diagnosed, dissected and even transplanted without consideration of the whole.

Dr. Abel’s Eye Advisory looks at the whole, and shares scientific and historical information while providing you with information for the health and care of your eyes.

You will learn drinking water, eating the right foods, simple eye exercises, relaxation methods, and specific vitamins can be just as powerful, in many cases, as medicines, lasers and surgery. Prevention is the key.

One of the secret weapons employed by the Royal Air Force to gain supremacy in the night skies above war-torn Britain during WWII came from a jam jar. Although the German Luftwaffe had more planes and pilots than the British, they didn’t have jars of bilberry jam on the tables in every flight mess. The purple bioflavinoids in bilberry feed the rod cells in the eye. It is these cells that we depend upon for night vision. Likewise, we need the yellow, orange and red fruits and vegetables for day vision.

There are more than 300 drugs that can accelerate the formation of cataracts. Drugs that lower cholesterol may affect the liver, and the liver is the important organ for the health of the eyes, as all nutrients pass through the liver. Fat-soluble vitamins – A, D, E and K – are stored in the liver. Cortisone inhalers, antihistamines, and even Viagra can affect your eyes.

Since Dr. Abel does not know your story, you must continue to advise your ophthalmologist, optometrist, physicians and other healthcare givers on these symptoms while exploring your options.

Dr. Abel firmly believes that you have to want to change before you can develop a new program for your eyes and your health. The Eye Advisory will provide information to help you on your voyage.
